Francis Scott Key was not actually a composer.  He was a lawyer.
First the song was a poem before it was a song.

Part of our assignment is to think about some fascinating facts about the composer and the song.  Below are a list of our ideas.

Francis Scott Key was only 35 years old when he wrote The Star Spangled Banner.
Alot of people have changed the song to create it in a rock and roll tempo.
The words were written in the middle of a battle (War of 1812 - which lasted until 1814)
It took 116 years to become the National Anthem!
President Herbert Hoover made it our national anthem.  He signed the law.
The words of the poem were written on the back of a letter - not fancy parchment paper.
The song actually has 4 verses, but most people only know the first one.
The song is one and a half octaves and really difficult to sing.
